Dawnwalker System Requirements and PC Performance Fixes

Updated 6 min read

This guide draws on official information from Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco for The Blood of Dawnwalker (released September 3, 2026). Sections marked as unconfirmed reflect details that are not yet officially verified.

The Blood of Dawnwalker asks for an Intel Core i5-11400F and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 at minimum, with 16 GB of RAM and a 60 GB SSD. The recommended tier steps up to an Intel Core i7-11700K and an RTX 4060 with 8 GB of VRAM. Meeting those numbers is only half the story on PC right now, though — launch week brought stuttering, shader crashes and 30fps cutscenes, so this page covers both the spec sheet and the fixes that are actually working.

System Requirements at a Glance

ComponentMinimumRecommended
CPUIntel Core i5-11400FIntel Core i7-11700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
GPUNVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 (8 GB), AMD Radeon RX 7600 XT or Intel Arc B580
RAM16 GB16 GB
Storage60 GB SSD60 GB SSD

The floor is friendlier than most 2026 releases — a 2016 GPU and a 2020 CPU — and the recommended tier lands on mainstream current-generation hardware rather than anything exotic. The SSD line is a requirement, not a suggestion: this is an Unreal Engine 5 open world streaming assets continuously, and a spinning drive is the wrong medium for it.

Three questions decide whether you are clear: GTX 1060 or better, 16 GB of RAM, and 60 GB free on an SSD. If you are unsure about the listed operating system version, the Steam store page carries the official details.

Launch Performance: Great Reviews, Angry PC Players

The split between critics and players is unusually wide, and it is worth understanding before you buy.

SignalValue
Critic average84–86
IGN9/10
Steam user rating~80% positive (7.4K reviews, Sept 5)
Steam rating on Sept 475% positive (2,072 reviews)
Peak concurrent players64,438 (Sept 3)
Steam paid chart#1 at launch

Note the direction of travel. The Steam score moved from 75% to roughly 80% in a single day as review volume more than tripled, which is what recovery looks like when patches land quickly.

The other thing to read from the negatives: they are almost entirely about PC optimisation, not the game itself. Complaints cluster on stuttering, crashes and locked-30fps cutscenes. A separate thread of criticism concerns the lack of Russian localisation. Very little of it is aimed at the writing, combat or structure — which is broadly why the critic and player numbers disagree. Our review covers the content side.

Known Issues and Fixes

This is the section worth bookmarking. The developers have publicly acknowledged the technical problems and published workarounds alongside the patches.

IssueFix or workaround
Stuttering in windowed modeSwitch to fullscreen
Crash during shader compilationUpdate your motherboard BIOS
Crash with FSR enabled on ultrawide displaysDisable FSR on ultrawide; use DLSS if available
PS5 controller button prompts missingAcknowledged known issue, awaiting fix
Cutscenes locked to 30fpsAcknowledged; not resolved as of writing

The windowed-mode stutter fix is the highest-value one because it is a single setting change and it accounts for a large share of the reports. The shader-compilation crash pointing at motherboard BIOS is unusual advice, but it comes from the developers' own known-issues list rather than community guesswork.

Let shaders finish compiling

If you hit a crash on first launch, update your BIOS before reinstalling or verifying files. Shader compilation is where this crash lives, and reinstalling does not address it.

Patch History

Two updates have shipped so far:

  • Patch 1.003 (day one) — added a 60fps performance mode, added DLSS support, and improved general performance. If you played before installing this, you were not seeing the game's intended state.
  • Hotfix 1.0.2 — fixed three quest-related bugs.

Confirm 1.003 is installed before you judge performance. It changed the baseline substantially, and a good share of early negative reviews predate it.

Further patch cadence and content plans are TBC — not officially confirmed yet.

Settings Advice That Helps Now

Nothing here is a substitute for patches, but these are the levers that exist today:

  • Run fullscreen. Not borderless, not windowed. This is the developers' own workaround for stuttering.
  • Enable DLSS if you have an RTX card. Added in 1.003 and the cheapest performance gain available.
  • Avoid FSR on ultrawide. It is a confirmed crash path. On standard aspect ratios FSR is fine.
  • Turn on the 60fps performance mode if you did not already — it is a 1.003 addition, so it may not be your default.
  • Update GPU drivers and motherboard BIOS. The BIOS step is unusual, but it is the documented fix for the shader crash.
  • Give it SSD headroom. Budget more than the stated 60 GB so patches have room.

Console players can skip most of this

The PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are not part of the PC optimisation story. Both platforms ship with SSD storage and fixed hardware targets. The 30fps cutscene limitation and the PS5 controller prompt issue are the overlap worth knowing about.

Frame rate figures for specific hardware at specific settings are TBC — not officially confirmed yet, and we will not estimate them.

Should You Buy It Now?

Reasonable case for waiting: if your rig sits near the minimum spec, or you play windowed on an ultrawide, another patch cycle will make your first evening better. The 30fps cutscene lock in particular has no workaround yet.

Reasonable case for buying now: the content reception is strong, the day-one patch already addressed the biggest performance gap, the user score is climbing rather than falling, and the game is Denuvo-free — no DRM layer sitting between you and performance, which matters to anyone who has watched that argument play out on other releases.

If you are on or above the recommended tier, running fullscreen with DLSS on a standard-aspect display, most of the reported problems do not apply to you. Edition comparisons are on our price and editions page, and unlock timing is on the release date page.

PC Performance FAQ

Is the game badly optimised? At launch, yes, on PC specifically. Patch 1.003 improved it and the user score has been recovering since.

Can I get 60fps in cutscenes? No. Cutscenes are locked to 30fps and that is an acknowledged known issue.

Why does it crash on startup? Most commonly during shader compilation. The documented fix is a motherboard BIOS update.

Does it support DLSS and FSR? DLSS arrived in patch 1.003. FSR works, but crashes on ultrawide displays.

Is Russian supported? No, and it is one of the more common complaints in user reviews. Whether it gets added later is TBC — not officially confirmed yet.

Does it use Denuvo? No, the game ships DRM-free of Denuvo.
