The Blood of Dawnwalker Speedrun Guide and Routes
Can you speedrun The Blood of Dawnwalker? Yes — more aggressively than almost any modern RPG. The game has no main quest: after the prologue, the only mandatory objective is the goal itself, and the official gameplay showcase confirms Coen can attempt the assault on Brencis's castle immediately. A focused rush can force an ending within the first two to three in-game days. Exact optimal routes and record times are TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
Here is the speedrun framework: why it works, the core route, and the time rules that shape every attempt.
The Blood of Dawnwalker Speedrun: Why It Works
Most RPGs gate their endings behind dozens of mandatory quests. The Blood of Dawnwalker does not. Rebel Wolves has compared the structure to Fallout 1 and 2 — one goal, a time limit, and complete freedom in between. There is no quest-after-quest main story leading you to the end.
The official gameplay showcase demonstrated the implication directly. Because of the open narrative, Coen could attempt to assault Greifberg Castle immediately after the prologue to save his family — the challenge would simply be far too intense. Nothing blocks the route: the castle, its defenders, and Brencis are already in the world, waiting for whoever dares to come early.
The Xanthe boss fight proves the philosophy extends to combat difficulty. That battle is officially winnable even at the start of the game — brutal, but possible. The same design logic applies to the endgame: early attempts are allowed, just extremely hard.
The Core Route: Prologue to Brencis
The baseline route, built entirely on confirmed systems:
- Finish the prologue. The 30-day countdown starts and the valley of Vale Sangora opens.
- Travel to Svartrau. Brencis rules from Greifberg Castle above the city, in the wealthy Silberkreis district.
- Assault the castle. Fight through to Brencis and force an ending.
A determined rush can reach the ending within the first two to three in-game days. Be clear-eyed about what that means: an unprepared Coen with minimal skills, no allies, and an untouched vampire hierarchy walks into the hardest content the game has. The official showcase describes the immediate assault's challenge as far too intense for an early Coen — that difficulty is the price of the fast route.
The Rules of a Dawnwalker Speedrun
Time Rules
The time system creates unusual speedrun rules:
- Exploration is free. Roaming, scouting, fighting, and looting never advance the clock. Route scouting costs nothing but real time.
- Quests cost time. Every quest carries an hourglass cost shown before you commit — a pure rush skips nearly all of them.
- Form switches cost time. Day-night transitions advance the clock, so minimize switching between human and vampire form.
- There is no real-time countdown. In-game time and real time diverge completely — a run's length in days says nothing about its real-time duration.
That last point matters for category design. Because time only moves on specific actions, "fewest in-game days" and "fastest real time" may reward completely different routes. Category definitions and leaderboards are TBC — they are set by the community as runs are verified.
Movement and Routing Tools
A Dawnwalker speedrun is also a movement puzzle. Coen has no horse — but the game gives you three ways to cross Vale Sangora, and none of them spends in-game time:
- On foot. The baseline, and the slowest option.
- Fast travel. Available through the world map for crossing the valley quickly.
- Night traversal. Vampiric movement — Shadowstep, Clawride, and Planeshift — turns rooftops, walls, and ceilings into roads, and it is dramatically faster than human travel.
The tension is obvious. Night traversal is the fastest way to move, but switching from day to night costs time on the 30-day clock. Routing a speedrun means deciding when that trade is worth it: push through the night for speed, or stay human and preserve the calendar.
Survival Rules on the Rush
A day-one Coen still has tools. Successful attacks, blocks, and parries build Activation Charges that power Active Abilities, and the Artery Attack finisher can end a fight instantly with a decapitation. Bare-handed fighting exists as a fallback, and sword categories from short swords to greatswords handle differently.
Night runs carry one extra obligation: Blood Hunger. Coen's craving intensifies after sunset, and ignoring it weakens him — or worse, makes him lose control at the worst possible moment. Speedrunners moving by night should feed on defeated foes or use blood vials, or the run can die to a lapse of control rather than a boss.
What Speedruns Skip
The scale of the skipping is the point of the design. Even the most efficient normal playthrough only sees around 80% of the game's content — and that describes a player actively trying to experience as much as possible. A speedrun abandons far more:
- Alliances. The story is non-linear enough that you can finish the game without ever meeting the human rebellion.
- Relationships. Marat's rebellion, Lacra's revenge, Anca's secrets — trust-building that opens routes combat never could, all bypassed on a pure rush.
- Storylines. Quests can be skipped entirely or never discovered — and some disappear on their own if you ignore them long enough.
- Skill trees. Swordmastery, Witchcraft, and Vampirism progression is largely bypassed on a pure rush.
- Optional bosses. Xanthe and other major encounters are entirely avoidable on the way to the castle.
- The legendary sword. The showcase's hunt for a legendary weapon hidden in Svartrau's crypts is exactly the kind of optional power a castle rush ignores.
Difficulty and Risks of the Rush
Understand what the rush demands. Regional difficulty locks the first time you enter an area, set partly by Coen's level at that moment within the region's minimum and maximum range, and the south of the map is generally more dangerous. How that lock interacts with a day-one entry into the castle's region is TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
An early castle push means facing endgame threats with a day-one Coen: no accumulated powers, no fed relationships, no legendary sword from Svartrau's crypts. The developers have openly framed the immediate assault as nearly overwhelming. That is simultaneously the speedrun's appeal and its risk — the fast route is always open, but it is never easy.
Categories, Records, and Next Steps
No official speedrun categories or leaderboard records exist yet — the game has only been out since September 3, 2026, and the community is still mapping routes. Expect variants like any% (prologue to ending as fast as possible), fewest in-game days, and completionist runs across the 46 Steam achievements.
This page is expanded with verified routes, splits, and record tracking as the community discovers what a 30-day month can be compressed into.
