The Blood of Dawnwalker Final Boss: How to Beat Brencis
Brencis is the final boss of The Blood of Dawnwalker, and the last quest — A Deal with the Devil — is the one that closes out Coen's 30 days. Getting there is not a matter of levelling up. It is a matter of making enough noise that Brencis invites you in, and then deciding whether you actually want to draw a blade at all, because one of the seven endings lets you walk past the fight entirely.
This page covers how the final quest unlocks, what is confirmed about the encounter, the ally choice that changes it, and the save strategy you need if you want more than one ending.
Who Is Brencis?
Brencis is a vampire born during the Roman Empire and the ruler of Vale Sangora. He holds court at Greifberg Castle and governs the valley through three lieutenants, each granted a region and each responsible for collecting the blood tax from the human population:
| Lieutenant | Notes |
|---|---|
| Xanthe | The oldest vampire in the valley |
| Bakir | Mocapped by former UFC champion Jan Błachowicz |
| Ambrus | Regional ruler in Brencis's inner circle |
That structure matters mechanically, not just narratively. The lieutenants are the pressure valve: hurting them is how you get Brencis's attention, and the Xanthe boss guide covers the one encounter that has been shown in full.
How to Unlock A Deal with the Devil
The main story runs in a fixed shape even though the world around it is open:
- Prologue. Sets Coen loose and starts the 30-day clock.
- Open world. You are free to roam Vale Sangora with no level gates.
- Court Activities. Completing these antagonises the three lieutenants. This is the engine of the whole progression — see court activities.
- Three lieutenant quests. The Gilded Gauntlet (Ambrus), The Lunar Game (Bakir), and The Cycle of Love (Xanthe).
- A Deal with the Devil. The final confrontation with Brencis.
The Infamy Trigger
The trigger between steps 4 and 5 is infamy. Infamy runs across nine levels and interacts with the edicts system Brencis's court issues in response to your actions. Once your infamy is high enough, you receive a parley message — an invitation to negotiate — and that is what opens the road to the final quest.
Do not treat the parley as a suggestion
The parley is the gate to the endgame. Accepting it moves you toward the final quest, and the game's 30-day limit is still running while you decide. If you have unfinished content you care about, do it before you answer.
Can You Skip the Final Boss?
Yes. The Turncoat ending has Coen defect and side with Brencis, which resolves the story without fighting him. If you want the credits without the duel, that is the route.
This is worth knowing before you commit, because Turncoat is one of seven endings and the only confirmed one that bypasses the encounter:
| Ending | Shape |
|---|---|
| Turncoat | Side with Brencis; skips the boss fight |
| Folk Hero | Confirmed ending branch |
| Patricide | Confirmed ending branch |
| Knyazmaker | Confirmed ending branch |
| A Hero They Deserve | Flee the valley |
| Together Forever | Dream ending |
| Time Runs Out | Bad ending from exceeding the 30 days |
Time Runs Out is the one nobody chooses on purpose. Note that even after the clock expires the world remains playable — the story ends, the game does not.
The Fight: What Is Actually Confirmed
Brencis's phases, ability names, and health values are TBC — not officially confirmed yet. Anything you read quoting exact numbers for him is guesswork. What is confirmed is the combat system the fight runs on, and that framework is enough to prepare properly:
- Four-directional attacks and blocks. Both human swordplay and vampiric claw combat use directional inputs. You commit to a direction; so does he.
- Protected state. Powerful vampires can enter a state where hits accomplish very little. Attacking through it wastes your stamina and your window. You drain his stamina first, and only then does a damage window open.
- Fast counters punish greed. Extra swings at the end of a combo are how runs end. The confirmed pattern across vampire encounters is that overcommitting gets answered immediately.
- Night means claws. After sunset Coen fights in vampire form. Your sword and spellbooks are unavailable, and Blood Hunger is active.
Night Form Considerations
After sunset Coen fights in vampire form: sword and spellbooks unavailable, claws only, and Blood Hunger active on top of everything else. Arriving fed is not optional preparation, it is the baseline.
For the underlying mechanics, see combat system.
Choosing Your Ally: Lacra or Crake
The final fight is not necessarily solo. Lacra or Crake can join you for the last stand, and they are separate branches rather than a difficulty toggle — which one shows up follows from how your story has gone. The mechanical differences between having Lacra versus Crake at your side are TBC — not officially confirmed yet, so pick on narrative grounds unless better information surfaces.
If you have been building a relationship across the 30 days, that thread feeds into this moment.
Endings, Trophies, and the Save Strategy
Four trophies are tied to endings, and there are seven endings. Replaying the whole 30 days seven times is not the intended path.
The workable approach: make a manual save immediately before the final quest resolves, then reload and take a different branch each time. The game provides 54 manual save slots, which is more than enough headroom to park a pre-ending save and still keep your regular rotation.
Practical order of operations:
- Finish the content you care about with days still on the clock.
- Answer the parley and advance to A Deal with the Devil.
- Save manually at the last decision point before the ending locks.
- Play out one ending, reload, repeat.
Save before the point of no return, not after
Turncoat diverges early enough that it skips the fight entirely, so your pre-ending save needs to sit before that choice — not at the boss arena door. Place it earlier than feels necessary.
See trophies and achievements for how the ending trophies are grouped.
Preparation Checklist
- Feed before you go. Night form means Blood Hunger. Feed on defeated enemies or carry blood vials so hunger does not spike mid-fight.
- Bring your best sword. If the fight lands in daylight for you, human form wants a legendary blade — our legendary weapons list sorts them by how you actually get them.
- Bank the days. The main story is finishable in roughly 7–10 in-game days, so there is real slack in the 30. Spend it on skills and gear, not on wandering.
- Practise the stamina rhythm on a lieutenant. The protected-state pattern is the same one Brencis is expected to use. Learn it where dying costs you less.
- Recommended level and gear thresholds: TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
Brencis Final Boss FAQ
Is there a level requirement? No. The game has no level gates — you can assault Greifberg Castle straight out of the prologue. It is brutally hard, since regional difficulty locks the first time you enter an area, but nothing blocks the attempt.
How long is the main story? Roughly 7–10 in-game days of the 30 available, leaving real slack for side content.
What happens if the 30 days run out? You get the Time Runs Out ending, and the world stays playable afterwards.
Do I have to kill all three lieutenants first? Court Activities and the three lieutenant quests are the confirmed path to building infamy and earning the parley. Whether every lieutenant must die is TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
