Coen
Coen is the protagonist of The Blood of Dawnwalker. Born a silver miner in 14th-century Vale Sangora, he is transformed into a Dawnwalker — human by day, vampire by night — after a run-in with the vampire court. This dual nature is the heart of the game: in sunlight he is a mortal fighter with a sword and rune magic; after dark he becomes a clawed rooftop predator with powers like Shadowstep, Clawride, Planeshift, and Crimson Rush, but must manage the Blood Hunger that comes with the night.
Coen's drive is personal. He has 30 in-game days and 30 nights to save his family from the vampire monarchy, led by Brencis. Time only advances when he completes quests, makes decisions, or switches between day and night — so how Coen spends his month, and who he becomes across his human and vampire halves, defines the story. He cannot use bows or crossbows; his daytime arts are swordplay and ritual rune magic, while his nights belong to vampiric claws and movement.
Brencis
Brencis is the main antagonist: an ancient vampire born during the Roman Empire, now the lord who rules Vale Sangora. He presides over a clique of powerful vampires who seized power after war and the Black Death devastated the region, and he makes his seat in Greifberg Castle, above the capital city of Svartrau in the wealthy Silberkreis district.
Brencis is the final obstacle between Coen and his family — the target of the entire 30-day quest. A defining feature of The Blood of Dawnwalker is that there is no traditional main quest: Coen can attempt to assault Greifberg Castle immediately after the prologue, though the fight is intentionally far too intense for an unprepared hero. Brencis commands three lieutenants — Xanthe, Ambrus, and Bakir — who each rule a region, collect the blood tax, and guard his inner circle. In the reveal trailer, Brencis heals a plague-stricken child with his own vampire blood and claims the fallen king's crown, setting the story in motion.
Xanthe
Xanthe is the oldest vampire in Vale Sangora and one of Brencis's three lieutenants. Official backstory holds that she was once a priestess on a remote Greek island whose name she has since forgotten. She is the most fully revealed boss encounter: Coen faces her at night in Svartrau's ornate cathedral, guarded by blood guards, in a five-phase duel involving blood whips, a protected state, counterattack windows, blood restoration you must interrupt, and a boiling-blood timer.
The fight is winnable even at the very start of the game — a showcase of the no-level-gates philosophy — but extremely difficult. For full tactics, see our Xanthe boss guide.
Ambrus
Ambrus is another of Brencis's three vampire lieutenants, each of whom rules a region of Vale Sangora, collects the blood tax from the human population, and commands blood guards. He first appeared in the January CGI reveal trailer in Brencis's court, alongside Xanthe and Bakir.
Ambrus's personal backstory, mortal origin, and the exact district he controls are TBC — not officially confirmed yet. His boss encounter is expected to follow the same night-form, directional-combat structure as the other lieutenants. See our Ambrus boss guide for the confirmed framework and preparation tips.
Bakir
Bakir is the third of Brencis's vampire lieutenants and the most physically imposing: former UFC champion Jan Błachowicz performed motion capture for the character, lending real fighting technique to his strikes. Like the other lieutenants, he rules a region, enforces the blood tax, and answers to Brencis. He first appeared alongside Xanthe and Ambrus in the January CGI trailer.
Bakir's full duel has not yet been shown in official gameplay; his phases and abilities are TBC. See our Bakir boss guide for the confirmed combat framework and how to prepare.
Luna
Luna is Coen's sister and the emotional core of the story. The stakes of the 30-day deadline are built around saving Coen's family — his loved ones, including Luna, are taken by the vampire monarchy, and the clock is running on their execution. Family bonds are a central theme: relationships and choices across the month shape who survives and how the tale ends.
Her exact role in quests and her individual fate are TBC — not officially confirmed yet. What is confirmed is that Coen's family drives every major decision, from whether to spend precious time growing stronger to how aggressively to push toward Greifberg Castle.
Pieter
Pieter is Coen's father, a former mercenary with a troubled past he rarely speaks of. He is strict and emotionally distant yet protective, and he taught Coen the basics of swordsmanship — the foundation of Coen's daytime human combat. Pieter represents the human, martial side of Coen's heritage in contrast to the vampiric powers forced on him by night.
Further details about Pieter's own quests and his arc across the 30 days are TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
Anca
Anca is a witch and one of Coen's possible romance interests. She is tied to the game's magic and Witchcraft skill tree — the branch of Coen's progression that channels hex magic and ritual power, including hexes like Burning Blood. Relationships in The Blood of Dawnwalker open routes that combat cannot: trust-building with characters like Anca can reveal options and information pure violence never would.
The full scope of Anca's storyline and romance path is TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
Lunka
Lunka is a second romance line for Coen, confirmed alongside Anca as one of the relationship options in the game. Romance and alliance-building are part of the narrative sandbox: investing time in a relationship is a genuine choice on the 30-day clock, because every segment spent on one bond is a segment not spent elsewhere, and some characters can remain strangers across an entire run.
Lunka's full backstory and questline are TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
