Dawnwalker Bakir Boss Guide: The Lunar Game
This guide draws on official information from Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco for The Blood of Dawnwalker (released September 3, 2026). Sections marked as unconfirmed reflect details that are not yet officially verified.
Bakir, the Mad Khan, is the vampire boyar holding the southwest of Vale Sangora. His boss quest, The Lunar Game, runs inside Lunar Manor, and it is the odd one out among Brencis's three vassals: an infiltration, not a fight you arrive prepared for. Vampire abilities are banned throughout and your equipment is confiscated at the door. Drink from him at the end and you take home his signature ability, Shadowstorm.
Everything that worked on Ambrus — arrive stocked, arrive buffed, poison him first — is void here.
The Mad Khan, and Why the Quest Looks Like This
Wiki material describes Bakir as a steppe horseman and raider out of Central Asia before he was turned, convinced by decades of raiding that fear, visibility, and force are what power actually is. Obedience becomes a contest under him: supporters get prizes, dissenters become examples. The Lunar Game is that worldview in one quest. Jan Błachowicz, the ex-UFC light heavyweight champion, did his mocap.
The real preparation happens inside
Ambrus tests your discipline against a known move list. Bakir tests whether you can rebuild an advantage after surrendering every one you had. Loot every container, and note the rats you can feed on indoors — health without breaking cover.
How to Unlock The Lunar Game
Raise his Anger in the Court menu by wrecking his operations in his region. No clean sweep needed. One launch walkthrough puts the bar at eight Bakir side quests, after which Farkas comes to find you; another reports Anger must be full and the quest costs around six reported time segments. Both are reported numbers, not confirmed values.
If you cannot find his activities, sync the 11 towers first: with map coverage revealed, nearby activities show up as white question marks. Locations are in collectibles; the system in court activities.
Bakir's Court Activities
The activities one launch walkthrough documents for his territory — likely not all:
| Category | Activity | Note | Segments |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rebel Hunters | Matter of Honour | The "challenge" is never a duel | 3 |
| Rebel Hunters | Silent to the Grave | Compel Soul the corpse → well → Secret Stash | 3 |
| Rebel Hunters | Smoke Them Out | Clear marked enemies | 3 |
| Payoff Transports | Curious Shipment | Ambush the column | 3 |
| Payoff Transports | Fool's Gold | Spare survivors → map → Ill-Gotten Gains | 3 |
| Distilleries | Ends and Means | Barn still | 3 |
| Distilleries | Coercion and Duress | Destroy equipment | 3 |
| Distilleries | Offshoot | Cave still | 3 |
| Pillories | Out of Love | Central Svartrau | 3 |
| Pillories | Familiar Face | Parlita south road; prisoner is Vasil | 3 |
| Pillories | Old Hand | Outside Lunar Manor | 3 |
None of Bakir's activities is a one-segment job, while Ambrus has three Blood Cellars costing one segment each. That is the real cost difference between the routes.
Old Hand deserves deliberate attention. Win the pillory fight, then pick I'm not letting anyone hurt this man. That opens Catalin's Tutor: find Catalin at the forest camp northwest of the pillory and beat him in a duel. He becomes a Swordmastery teacher — which matters when a sword is all you get. See skill manuals and side quests.
A Mother's Plea: The One Chain You Can Lose
One thread behaves nothing like the rest: hidden, missable, partly timed, hanging off Lacra and Osha's storyline rather than the Court menu. It runs A Friend Like This → Song of the Mountain → A Mother's Plea → The Heart Wants What It Wants, closing only when you return to Uriash and speak to the elder. Start at Svartrau's northeastern wall: Focus Mode the alley clues, cross the rooftops, and a vampire boss waits.
This beats any single distillery
The other eleven activities are repeatable three-segment fights. This chain is the only one you can permanently miss, and parts are timed.
Timing and Pre-Match Setup
The Lunar Game only starts in the afternoon. Arrive early and Farkas offers to wait, burning segments for nothing. Inside the grounds you get three segments before dusk:
- Poison The Cockroach's drink. Pick leaves from the bush in the corner of the gathering area, then use the vessel beside him. He is not eliminated on the spot, but you find him later on the ground, unable to fight.
- Talk to The Porcupine. He steps aside in the maze and you skip a fight. Skip the chat and you fight him.
- Tell The Marten you want Bakir dead. She turns friendly, and one launch walkthrough reports she hands over a magical item before dying.
First pleasantries are free; deeper conversations cost time.
The opening speech is a trap
When the Khan addresses the contestants, one option rips off your disguise and starts the fight there. It is almost always wrong: the quest is built to feed you equipment through the maze, so unmasking now means fighting Bakir and his whole retinue in cloth. One walkthrough reports that version runs roughly twice as hard as the isolated duel. Keep the mask on, cheer with the crowd, answer passively when addressed. Staying silent draws suspicion.
The Maze
It is called a maze and it is essentially linear. Push forward and strip every room — this is the gear you fight him with. Trap box puzzle: pick the left hole, as the note on the box hints and two walkthroughs confirm. The coins on the dead contestant change nothing.
How to Isolate Bakir in the Vault
Afterwards he discusses your prize. Obey the order to unmask and answer submissively, and you fight him plus every surviving underling. The better route talks him into the vault alone — one walkthrough records these lines:
I'm sorry, but I'm not taking the mask off. With pleasure.Cheers! To friendship and good fortune! My wish is to die fighting, not quietly in my bed.Is that all? Can I get my reward now?I thought you might want to eat them later — if any other contestants are still alive.
White options between them are irrelevant. This seals Coen and Bakir in together, removing the retinue and a sorcerer-type miniboss while the reward stays identical. The real difficulty dial is not in the fight — it is these seven lines. Dialogue can avoid combat, but carries no exclusive reward, and killing him opens the vault.
How to Beat Bakir: Attacks and Answers
If you did not isolate him, clear the adds first — soldiers plus that sorcerer miniboss. Bakir fights mostly with his fists, plus two unblockable ranged options.
| Attack | Tell | Answer |
|---|---|---|
| Fist pressure | Close-range punch strings | Block or dodge, punish briefly, do not get greedy |
| Blood lines | Blood lashes outward, often repeating | Keep side-dodging past the first line |
| Bird swarm | He calls a flock at Coen | Open distance, dodge to the end of the sequence |
Bakir has no obvious new late move and no phase change. He cycles between close fists and those two ranged attacks throughout, and published launch patterns show no major late phase. This is a test of move recognition, not phase management — unlike Ambrus, whose two phase markers and Scarlet Shield punish attacking in the wrong window.
Recommended level, gear, and damage numbers: TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
Kill or Feed, and the Armour You Can Lose
Drinking from Bakir unlocks the Shadowstorm Vampirism ability, which three sources agree on; one wiki describes it as slowing the action around you. Killing him ends the quest without it. Either way, vassal kills raise your Infamy — see infamy edicts — and thin the assault in brencis final boss.
Search the body either way
He carries the legendary medium armour Bakir's Armour, reported under that name by a single guide. The trap: if you fought him in the courtyard, Farkas may drag Coen straight into the vault afterwards. Walk back out to the corpse and loot it, or the armour is gone. Both guides flag this.
The Ring
The Ring opens automatically once The Lunar Game ends. The purple gemstone ring sits in a small chest on a shelf on the northern side of the treasure room, confirmed by two guides. Skip the vault and one guide reports you miss both.
Then choose. Hand it to Farkas and he closes the quest; a later world event reveals he used it and killed his own brother by mistake. Or keep it for Anca, usually at the Crossroads inn, who destroys it and gives Coen an Epic Quick Fighter's Ring. Only one option hands you an item; the other a consequence.
Bakir Boss FAQ
Can I bring my own gear in? No. Equipment is confiscated at the start and vampire abilities are banned throughout, so you arm yourself from the manor's containers.
Do I have to fight him? Technically no, but the vault only opens if you kill him. See bosses for how the vassals compare.
Where should Bakir sit in my run? Second: Ambrus, Bakir, then Xanthe. The no-powers rule is kinder once your Swordmastery is real.
Does he have a second phase? Nothing published at launch shows one. Health values and hidden thresholds are TBC — not officially confirmed yet.
