The Blood of Dawnwalker Characters: Cast and Quest Roles
This guide draws on official information from Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco for The Blood of Dawnwalker (released September 3, 2026). Sections marked as unconfirmed reflect details that are not yet officially verified.
The Blood of Dawnwalker follows Coen, a young man from Laslea who is human by day and vampiric by night. His family is being held by Brencis, ruler of Vale Sangora, and the campaign gives Coen 30 in-game days to reach them. This guide identifies the launch-version cast and explains what each person does without revealing individual fates or finale choices.
Spoiler level
The first half covers identities and early-game roles. The quest-role table names quest chains and finale-route requirements but does not reveal their outcomes. For ending consequences, use the endings guide.

Coen
Coen is the player character and the eldest child of a family from Laslea. Brencis's intervention leaves him a Dawnwalker: he uses swordplay and Witchcraft while human during the day, then vampiric claws and movement abilities at night. Those are separate toolsets rather than cosmetic forms, so the time of day changes how Coen reaches objectives and handles combat. See day versus night and the combat guide for the mechanical split.
His objective is stable even when the route is not: reach his captured family before the 30-day deadline. Court Activities, allies, side quests, and even an early castle assault are different ways of pursuing that goal rather than a conventional linear main-quest list.
Brencis and the Court
Brencis
Brencis is the vrakhir Knyaz who displaced Vale Sangora's human rule and governs from Greifberg Castle above Svartrau. He turns Coen during the Laslea crisis, but Coen does not become an ordinary vampire under his control. Brencis then holds Coen's family while the conflict spreads across the valley.
Mechanically, Brencis is both the final opponent and a negotiation point. The normal campaign route dismantles the operations of his three boyars, raises Infamy, and unlocks A Deal with the Devil. Other routes can reach Greifberg earlier, and accepting Brencis's bargain can avoid the fight. The verified routes are in the Brencis final boss guide.
Xanthe
Xanthe is the oldest vrakhir in Vale Sangora and one of Brencis's three boyars. Her Court Activities and confrontation form one branch of the post-prologue campaign. She is associated with Svartrau's cathedral and blood guards; launch progression guides place her boss route after the Ambrus and Bakir branches. See the Xanthe boss guide for the encounter page, noting that its older pre-release coverage may not document every launch branch.
Ambrus
Ambrus is Brencis's northern boyar and oversees the court's human-blood supply. Sabotaging his transports, cellars, collectors, prisons, and processing sites raises his Anger until The Gilded Gauntlet becomes available. His route also connects to The Bittersweet Toast, an optional preparation quest that can alter the duel. The full launch route is in the Ambrus boss guide.
Bakir
Bakir, called the Mad Khan, controls the southwest and turns punishment into public spectacle. His Court Activities target hunters, transports, distilleries, and pillories; raising his Anger opens The Lunar Game at Lunar Manor. That quest removes Coen's normal equipment and forbids revealing his vampiric identity while disguised, making its preparation different from a normal boss approach. See the Bakir boss guide.
Coen's Family
Coen's immediate family is Pieter, Esme, Yanna, Mirto, and Lunka. Pieter taught Coen swordsmanship; Esme's illness creates a time-sensitive prologue decision; Yanna, Mirto, and Lunka are Coen's younger siblings. Brencis's custody of the family supplies the campaign deadline and makes the finale's negotiation more than a simple villain encounter.
Lunka is Coen's youngest sister. She is not a romance option; claims that she is dateable came from pre-release speculation. This page deliberately does not state which relatives can live or die, because those outcomes depend on timed actions and finale choices. Consult missables and endings only when you are ready for consequences.
Allies and Personal Questlines
Anca
Anca is a witch connected to Coen's early access to Witchcraft. Her personal content runs through Echoes of Silenced Bells and Font of Life, and she is one of the confirmed romance options. Her route is optional rather than a requirement for confronting Brencis. See the romance guide for relationship details and the skill trees guide for Witchcraft.
Lacra
Lacra is a vrakhir from outside Brencis's court who is pursuing him for reasons revealed through her personal quests. Her launch quest chain includes A Friend Like This, Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, and Our Rotten Roots; The Night of Horrors is optional, while Midnight Reckoning starts her finale route. Completing the route can bring Lacra into the confrontation with Brencis and is required for the Patricide ending.
Crake
Crake leads the Manumits, the resistance network opposing Brencis. His route grows out of The Firebrand, Shadows in the Woods, and Where Loyalty Lies, then continues through later Manumit quests to Rise at Dawn and Fall Before Dusk. Completing that chain can bring Crake and the Manumits into the finale and is required for the Knyazmaker ending.
How the Cast Connects to Progression
- After the prologue, the Court menu tracks Anger for Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe.
- Disrupting each boyar's operations unlocks that character's confrontation quest.
- Defeating the three boyars and advancing to the next Edict sequence produces Brencis's parley and A Deal with the Devil.
- Lacra's and Crake's optional chains create two ally routes; rejecting both produces the solo route.
- Brencis's bargain creates a non-combat route, while the family deadline remains active across all of them.
